Batman Costume Versions

Batman Costume IdeasThere are a few different versions of the Batman costume. From the beginning he wore grey, and then it went on to black. From there it went to latex or rubber, which was black also. This costume can be made from sweats to rubber, depending on the style of costume you choose.

The sweats would be the most comfortable, as the rubber can get warm and fits fairly tight. The sweats would also fit plus sizes.

And for the legs, you will need a pair of tights, or snug fitting pants, depending on the color of costume. They may be grey or black. A black pair of speedos would fit over the tights.

For starters, you will need a hooded black sweatshirt, which fits snug, but not tight. A long sleeved black shirt would also work. You may be able to find one at a local thrift store. The hood would be used as part of the cape.

Next, you want to cut out a couple felt triangles for the ears, and sew or glue them to the hood. I wouldn’t recommend super glue, unless you don’t want to wear the sweatshirt anymore.

Batman Costume Cape

For the cape, you can use a silky type of material, or a black blanket. Batman’s cape varied in size through out the years. When it first began, it was shorter and smaller in size. How much material you cut will depend on the size of cape you want. The person wearing the costume will have to be measured and sized. Fold the material to form a triangle. When finished, if it looks like a square, it wasn’t folded correctly.

Batman Costume Utility Belt

The utility belt was Batman’s best friend, with the exception of Robin. And you can make one of your own with a few items. You can use a regular tool belt found at your local hardware stores, and then get a piece of cardboard and cut it out into a oval shape large enough to cover the size of a belt buckle. The Batman logo can be printed from a home computer, and can be located on a template. A piece of yellow construction paper will work as well. If it is the cardboard, spray paint or use a yellow marker to color it in, and add the Batman logo on top of that. If you choose the black belt buckle, the use silver paint or marker for the logo. To attach the belt buckle to the utility belt, you can use a hot glue gun or fabric glue. Or if you prefer, Velcro can also be used.

Next, you will want to find bat items to place on the belt, and they can be found in a toy store or on line. You may want to use Velcro so the bat accessories will then be able to be removed. Or you can use cardboard and make your own, and attach them with Velcro. One would be a bat shaped boomerang and painted black, that is one of Batman’s signature items. Attach a couple of pouches to the utility belt to carry a couple of your personal items. Another choice would be to use a regular black belt with a buckle, and use spray paint to match the color of costume you choose.

Batman Costume Boots

Now for the boots. You can use a pair of black cowboy boots or rubber boots. If the rubber boots are any other color than black, they can be spray painted. And tuck the tights into the boots.

For the gloves that Batman wore, which included 3 spikes from the top of the glove. A thick plastic bag would work for this, and they are about 1 inch or so long. You will need 6 total for both gloves. And paint them the color to match the costume.

Once this is all completed, now is the time to add the face make-up to make the costume authentic. Make sure it is washable. Or if you choose, to purchase a cowl. Memorize a few Batman lines, and your ready to go! Just remember, you are a superhero who fights the bad guys, but you really don’t have superpower!
