Batman The Brave and the Bold Costumes

Batman the Brave and the Bold CostumeThe Batman The Brave and the Bold Halloween costume is a contemporary 21st century costume that's retro, old school Batman at the same time. The Brave and the Bold was a comic book title originally published by DC Comics from 1955 to 1983, which featured the Neil Adams style Batman, which continues to be the modern version of Batman. When a new Batman television series was in the works, The Brave and the Bold was a natural name for the series, which wanted to distinguish itself from previous Batman tv series.

Ironically, The Brave and the Bold animated series is in many ways a throwback to Batman before Neil Adams redefined the character. This new animated Batman is not as dark and brooding as Batman: The Animated Series, and he is more likely to remind people of the 60's Batman live-action tv series. That isn't to say that the show is as campy as that tv show was, but you'll find this Batman seems friendlier, and features the Dark Knight happy to team up with other DC heroes. The antagonists aren't nearly as likely to be featured as the criminal psychopaths who haunt Arkham Asylum. In fact, certain situations refer back to the 1960's live-action Batman television series. The theme of death is explored multiple times, so the show is not entirely a return to the wacky, colorful world of Sixties tv Gotham City.

Some of the changes are in the setting, which often takes place in daylight hours, whereas the animated series was almost always at night and in the shadows. Often, Batman was seen as little more than a darkened form and a pair of pupil-less eyes. Diedrich Bader makes a great deal friendlier sounding Batman than Kevin Conroy, though both are great in their own way. In fact, I prefer both series to the third Batman animated series of recent years, The Batman, which featured a much younger Dark Knight and re-imagined villains. While that series had its moments, including a cool theme song by the Edge of U2, I prefer my Batman mature, and either the original, less troubled Bats, or the modern, darker Caped Crusader.

Batman Costume

The yellow on the Batman costume in the Brave and the Bold series is a lot more prominent, with the yellow surrounding the bat logo especially prominent in comparison to the Batman Animated Series (the yellow was missing from the logo in certain seasons of that show). Also, Batman's mouth on the Brave & the Bold series is drawn different, so that he seems to have the hint of a smile, which is much different than the humorless Batman of the first animated series.

Batman on Halloween

Batman makes for a great costume for Halloween, because it's such a recognizable costume. Also, you can go dark and foreboding with the costume, or you can be the lighter, more fun-loving Batman. Both versions are perfectly in keeping with the 70+ year history of the character. The main difference in "lighter" or "darker" is probably going to be whether you add in yellow to your bat logo, how big the gaudy yellow/gold utility belt is, and exactly how dark the gray part of the costume is. The material used for the costume is also important, since the latex evokes Batman in the movies, while the cloth fabric is more reminiscent of the Sixties tv show Batman.

For a comparison of three Batman costumes, take a look at this: Batman Brave & Bold Deluxe Muscle Chest Adult Plus Costume, this Batman Dark Knight - Batman Grand Heritage Collection, and this Collector's Edition Batman Adult Costume. All three are recognizably the Caped Crusader, but the first Halloween costume is remarkably different from the other two. You're not as likely to scare the heck out of kids trick-or-treating in the Batman Brave and Bold Halloween Costume.
