Poison Ivy Costume Ideas

Poison Ivy Costume IdeasPoison Ivy costume ideas work on a number of different levels. If you want to go to a Halloween party with a man dressed as Batman, but you don't want to go in the latex and cowl of Batgirl or Catwoman, Poison Ivy is a vibrant and radically different option. If you're going as a movie character, then you can dress as the Uma Thurman version of Poison Ivy from the 1997 disaster film, Batman & Robin. Or if you're going to a comic book themed Halloween party, you can confidently go as the world's most eligible eco-terrorist: the lone comic book version of Poison Ivy.

Who Is Poison Ivy?

Poison Ivy Halloween CostumesPoison Ivy was botanist Pamala Lillian Isley, who (through various means in various incarnations) develops an immunity to natural toxins. Pamela Isley also develops a desire to protect the environment, or get revenge on people who mistreat plants. Poison Ivy uses her botany skills to develop toxins and paralytics from her plant friends, often delivering these poisons with a kiss. She becomes one of Batman's most prominent female rogues, and occasionally is written to be something of a flawed romantic interest.

Poison Ivy was introduced in 1966 and her original look and southern drawl was inspired by Betty Page. Once feminism became prominent in America, Poison Ivy became an A-list Batman villain, who had had very few successful female antagonists in the early decades of his career. These days, Poison Ivy is occasionally teamed up with the Joker's sometime female sidekick, Harley Quinn, pretty much the only non-plant she's shown much friendship for (besides Jason Woodrue, himself a plant). In another era, Poison Ivy went through a more lethal phase, after joining the Suicide Squad.

Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy

Perhaps the strangest version of Poison Ivy was the whacked out Uma Thurman version, who played opposite George Clooney as Batman and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze. Besides the obviously bad idea of having a cold villain and a plant villain working together, that movie was bad in so many other ways - including Uma Thurman in a decidedly non-traditional Poison Ivy get-up. I much prefer the Betty Page version of the comics, but you might disagree.

Poison Ivy Costume Versions

If you want an option between two different Poison Ivy variants, here's a floral green  Poison Ivy Adult Costume which shows off the legs, while this Gotham Girls DC Comics Poison Ivy Adult Costume is more akin to the Uma Thurman version, with green-on-green leotard. Either one should get Batman's attention, along with attention of the rest of the men at your Halloween party.
